Ratan Tata’s Beloved Dog ‘Goa’ Spotted at Funeral, Offering a Final Farewell

Ratan Tata’s Beloved Dog ‘Goa’ Spotted at Funeral, Offering a Final Farewell

Ratan Tata, renowned industrialist, philanthropist, and devoted dog lover, passed away at the age of 86 in Mumbai yesterday. In his honor, the national flag will fly at half-mast across government offices in Maharashtra. Tata was known not only for his extraordinary contributions to industry but also for his heartfelt concern for stray animals. His compassion for abandoned pets, particularly during the monsoon season when stray dogs seek refuge under vehicles, was evident in his advocacy for their safety and well-being.

At his funeral, Ratan Tata’s loyal companion, his dog ‘Goa,’ was seen paying a touching final tribute. The bond between Tata and his dog, Goa, is rooted in a story. Tata had come across the stray dog while in Goa, and moved by the encounter, he adopted him and brought him back to Mumbai. Goa has since lived at the historic Bombay House, the Tata Group’s headquarters, which has long welcomed stray dogs, much like the famed Taj Hotel.

Goa’s caretaker shared, “He has been with us for 11 years. He was brought from Goa by the security team during a picnic, and Ratan Tata cherished him dearly.” Tata frequently posted pictures with Goa and other dogs on social media, sharing glimpses of his deep bond with animals.

Tata’s connection with his dogs went beyond companionship. In 2018, he missed a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony organized by the British Royal Family to stay home and care for his ailing dog. This act was recalled by businessman Suhel Seth, who quoted Tata saying, “One of my dogs, Tango, is gravely ill. I can’t leave him alone and come.”

Among Tata’s many animal welfare initiatives was the Small Animal Hospital in Mumbai, a state-of-the-art facility he envisioned to provide care for stray and pet animals. Opened in July, the hospital can accommodate nearly 200 patients and is equipped with cutting-edge technology. Originally planned for Navi Mumbai, Tata decided to relocate the facility to a central area to make it more accessible for pet owners.

Ratan Tata’s legacy of compassion for both humans and animals will remain a significant part of his lasting impact.
